I'm working with an amazing new designer currently, and she just got a new project working with a fabulous couple on the upper west side of New York City. They have an amazing apartment that has been recently finished with a nod to modern lines. Including zebra wood cabinetry and gray blue glass tiles, sleek hardwood floors and large open windows. However, they do not own the apartment yet so it is strictly just furnishing and accessorizing. Fine by me! :)
Taking a cue from the look of the apartment I thought it might be nice to take a modern day "Mad Men" approach. Taking the ugly muted colors out of that 60's look but keeping the clean lines and warm wood tones while adding hints of glamour like antique brass and edgy crystal ceiling fixtures.
The entry, kitchen, dining room and living room are all open to each other so I thought some of these case pieces could work nicely together with the Elite Leather sofa that my boss envisioned floating in the living room. The custom wrap around sofa table would hold the Elkins table lamps by Visual Comfort and be perfectly matched to the Morgan Entertainment Cabinet that would store all the owners high tech electronics. Tall Emerson et Cie wood and brass etageres would flank either side of the media cabinet bringing the eye up to there 10 foot high ceilings. Lucite and geometric rugs break up all the wood and art by Rodger Camp reflects the owners passion for triathlons.
I think the set designers of Mad Men would be quite impressed.
