HOME GOODS SHOPPING LESSON

Attention Home Goods shoppers, there is an exceptional find around every corner. Just keep your eyes peeled and know what to look for and you will be victorious!!

I went to a few Home Goods in search of a great deal on a rug, but let's be honest, when you're looking for a 10x14 in the right shade, it's slim pick-ins. But don't you worry, because I found many other fun things.

Exhibit A.
The cutest little patriotic chair you'll ever see.
Mixed into a hip bachelor pad space, this piece could be a real conversation starter. I love its aerodynamic lines, and the camel leather. $599 for a leather chair, who the hell needs that imitation leather at Bob's Furniture!

Decent bench, like the bleached wood. An extra $200 and you could reupholster it in a fantastic fabric...

This chair has that whole Swedish vibe happening.

This spectacular specimen of rope wrapped console, will most likely be seen in our next edition of portfolio photos :) Please advert your eyes to the hideousness that is going on beneath the table.

Silver glazed linen dining chairs. Buy 6 and then spend your money on some show stopping Host and Hostess chairs in a fun pattern.

2 wishbone bar stools. Obviously I'm not a huge red fan, but these could easily be painted a fun shade!

Modernized woven leather arm chairs. I could see these enhanced with a small sheepskin hide draped over the top.

Have you found anything good at Home Goods lately?

DENISE MCGAHA INTERIOR DESIGN

I ran across Denise McGaha Interior Design the other day when researching Hickory Chair console tables, and I fell in love with her work for the Texas State Fair House of Tomorrow, from October 2011. Denise had only 16 days to design and install this project!! So she went to her trusting friends at Hickory Chair for some quick and utterly gorgeous pieces. And the result is perfection. Comfortable and hip, with a rustic edge, this place is right up my alley. And of course Steph and I love the Axel Orb chandelier, just used it for a client in fact.

I love the mix of grey and taupe in the fabrics and wood tones. Not to mention that cork shade detail on the floor lamp. I always tell you people how it's about the little things that make a design stand above the rest!

Simple wood planking on the walls. I wonder how difficult that process is?

Props on creating one unified space with two separate pops of color on either end. Touche.

This space is just perfectly edited. Just the right amount of accessories!

Totally filing this spread of gorgeous inspiration away!

DIY TRUNK TRANSFORMATION

Aren't Grandma's just the cutest?!
Well mine certainly is. I think it's where I get some of my love for design from. My grandma, or "Nan" for short, has always had a love for finding hidden treasures and making them new again, and one of her favorite things to make over are old steamer trunks. In fact, every woman in my family is promised one right before she gets married. A traditional "dowry" if you will.

Relax though! I'm not getting married any time soon!! But my brother is. So in preparation for choosing my future sister in laws wedding trunk I decided I better pick mine out before all the good trunks get taken.

Nan and I got started by picking out some fun fabrics, a metallic silvery taupe striped pattern for the top and a plain beige linen for the interior. We then shipped the trunk off to the upholsterer, not very Do-It-Yourself I guess.
Then Nan took it upon herself to paint the entire trunk! All the strapping was painted gold and the leather bottom cleaned up a bit. Some new leather handles for the sides and a new lock finished the look.

I love my the way it turned out!!

Here's another Blurry before pic.

PORTFOLIO: PARISIAN BEDROOM

This Parisian inspired bedroom was designed for a young career driven girl who works hard and dreams about someday taking that much deserved Paris vacation. To keep it light and fresh we painted the walls a blush pink, while layering the pink fuschia overdye rug underneath all of the neutral pieces is what gives this space just the right amount of pop.
The secretary is perfect for getting work done, paying bills, and maybe one day she can use it to write love letters to Jean-Paul who wined and dined her while visiting France.

PORTFOLIO: MOROCCAN SITTING ROOM

Nicole and I would like to thank Ashlina Kaposta of The Decorista for posting the launch of the new Dalliance Design portfolio website. The girls at Dalliance Design are so excited to finally unveil images of some of our favorite projects. Last week was a whirlwind, we received nothing but positive feedback from everyone. So, here is todays featured project, the Moroccan Sitting Room.

We can't even begin to tell you the rooms transformation once we put up this Ralph Lauren Metallic Paint on the walls. It set the exact tone we wanted to capture, this space truly feels like you are in some exotic part of the world. The metallic hemp rug and rich brass hardware details really help pull everything together. This is the perfect room to relax and read a book, make some after work cocktails, or play a game of chess.

Nicole had a custom mardi gras bead art made by Robert Corely. Isn’t the Veuve Cliquot art just perfect against this metallic paint? French champagne never looked so good..

PORTFOLIO: OFFICE

If you want to see what this office looked like before click here.
What a transformation! I'm not sure how Nicole and I ever got a creative spark in that sad sage green painted office while looking at that lazy boy rocking chair. Now I love walking into this room and seeing all of our current favorite fabric and wallpaper swatches displayed in front of that DIY fabric covered corkboard. I wanted the corner to serve as a game area, of course I may be the only person in the world that would demand a delicate mirrored table to place my scrabble board on.

A mirrored game table to drink tea while playing fancy scrabble.

MACARON MADNESS

After our most recent photo shoot Nicole and I drove to several different bakeries in NJ in hopes to find a package of delicious multi colored macarons. With no luck we settled for warm chocolate croissants and pastries, which satisfied our taste buds of course but it was just not as pretty to look. Of course, now that I'm back in NYC I can't go anywhere without being taunted by these lovely treats. While waiting for a cab one day I was browsing through an Urban Outfitters and stumbled upon the sweetest Macaron Pill Boxes and almost bought the whole lot of them, I just cannot get enough.
